A bachelor’s degree can be a great way to further your knowledge in a particular field of study, but a four-year college program isn’t always attainable for everyone—nor is it always necessary. There are plenty of well-paying jobs out there that don’t require a bachelor’s degree—your experience, interpersonal skills, hard-work and intelligence will be the deciding factors.

1. Web developer

You don’t need a computer science degree to become a web developer. In the field, many developers are self-taught or have attended coding bootcamps to learn their craft. It’s a job that provides great flexibility options, pays well, and is very in-demand.

2. Computer support specialist

Computer support specialists fix problems with software, computers, or other online-related programs and tools. This job requires working hours outside of the traditional 9-to-5 workday—many specialists work nights and weekends. Like developers, many computer support specialists are self-taught through free online courses or low-cost training.

3. Graphic designer

In this role, all you need to land a job is a high school diploma and an impressive portfolio of previous work. As long as you’re well-versed in editing software like Adobe, you should be able to prove your expertise to hiring managers or even work independently.

4. Freelance writer

Have you always had a knack for language? Freelance writers may write website or ad copy for businesses; articles or conduct interviews for magazines, websites, or blogs; white papers for companies; and more. It’s a great job for those who seek variety and flexibility and similar to graphic designers, all you need is a portfolio of previous work.

5. English tutor

The demand for English tutors is growing, especially abroad. Teaching English online provides plenty of flexibility and can be done from anywhere.

However, you will likely need to join an accredited paralegal studies program.

You don’t need a degree to start your own business—just think of all those famous Harvard dropouts. Whether it’s a clothing store, restaurant, or bookstore, all you need to get started is a vision, perseverance, some capital, and maybe even a rockin’ business card.

8. Loan officer

Loan officers review monetary assistance applications, evaluate credit status, and provide financial advice. They usually work in banks, mortgage companies, or credit unions. All you need to land the job is a high school diploma, excellent interpersonal skills, and strong financial literacy.

9. Dental assistant

You don’t need to complete a four-year program to become a dental assistant, but some states may require you to complete a certification program or pass an exam. As a dental assistant, you would help with tasks like preparing dental molds, x-rays, and impressions.
